Asbestos Removal

EETI can assist you with the proper surveys to identify potential hazards before you begin your renovations keeping you in full compliance of all the laws and regulations.

WHERE CAN ASBESTOS BE COMMONLY FOUND?

Once thought to be the fiber of miracle, asbestos was used for everything from fire and sound proofing, to insulating your home. Some of the most common materials containing asbestos are joint compound, popcorn ceilings, flooring material ex: linoleums and tiles, glue adhesives, caulking, glazing, and felt papers. It was also commonly used in siding and roofing products, heating and air conditioning ducts, hot water storage tanks, hot/steam pipe insulation, vent piping, stucco and plaster. We know that under certain circumstances exposure to asbestos can cause cancer and other very serious respiratory diseases and health conditions.

ARE MY FAMILY MEMBERS AND MYSELF IN ANY DANGER?

Asbestos alone can be considered to be quite harmless. The potential problem begins when asbestos ages or is disrupted, such as during repairs, restoration or renovation projects. If the situation is not properly handled, asbestos can endanger the health.

WHAT ARE MY LEGAL OBLIGATIONS?

There is no law that says you must have asbestos materials removed from your home. However, if an asbestos containing material is removed, the law does require that most abatement work be performed by a properly licensed asbestos abatement contractor. Due to strict government regulations only qualified asbestos contractors should perform regulated asbestos work. Do not risk your safety or health by taking on an asbestos removal project yourself. Proper handling of asbestos or any hazardous materials requires knowledge, expertise and resources that typically only licensed abatement contractors possess. During renovations people should take care because many common building products could contain asbestos. Some of the most common materials containing asbestos are joint compound, popcorn ceilings, flooring material ex: linoleums and tiles, glue adhesives, caulking, glazing, and felt papers.

In 2014 the Department of Environmental Protection enacted a new regulation that requires testing of all building products that could contain asbestos. Asbestos containing products can be shipped in from other countries even today. Due to the new regulations, testing is required on buildings built even today, there is no cutoff date as some people may think.

EETI can also assist you with the demolition and disposal of non-asbestos containing building products. We specialize in interior dust free removal which can help eliminate messy clean ups left from renovations. Call us to help answer any questions you may have.
